Alternative Fuels

One type of an alternative fuel is biomass. Biomass is organic material made from plants and animals. It contains stored energy from the sun. The plants absorb the sun's energy, which is called photosynthesis. The chemical energy in plants gets passed on to animals and people that eat them. Biomass is a renewable energy source because we can always grow plants.

Another renewable energy source is Hydropower. Hydropower is the use of the waters flow to create energy. This renewable source of energy is the common used in the US. It accounted for 7 percent of the total US electricity generated and 73 percent of generation from renewables in 2005. It is one of the olds sources of energy. And the first US hydropower plant was built back in 1882 in Appleton, Wisconson.

Now we have Geothermal energy. Geothermal energy is really just heat from within the earth. The work geothermal comes from the Greek words geo, meaning earth, and therme, meaning heat. The steam produced by the earth can be used to heat builds. It also can be used to generate electricity. Geothermal energy is a renewable energy source because the water is replenished by rainfall and the earth continuously produces heat.

Finally we have Wind Power. Wind Power is the use of wind to produce electricity. The use of wind to create electricity has been around for a long time. They have windmill farms to produce energy. For example there is one in Paw Paw, Illinois. This is a renewable energy because wind never stops.

The idea of renewable energy is great. We as humans depend so much on oil. And oil is not a renewable energy. Once the oil runs out its out. We need to start using these renewable energy sources. Soon it could be the only ones we have.

Fantastical work Dooby! I really liked how you got right to the point. You didn't beat around the bush. Way to give me the information I needed. I liked your conclusion, it was very Dustin. Keep up the splendid work.

Dustin,

I had no clue that Hydropower had so many uses. It's amazing about how much we use it everyday. Jake was right, you do get right to the point. It helps things get started faster.

Dustin-

You're absolutely correct when you say the oil is not a newable energy. Our oil dependance will cause many problems in days to come, including very high gas prices. Hybrid cars seem to be helping, but they are so expensive at this time. They run 1/2 on oil and 1/2 on battery. Hopefully, we will find new methods of alternate energy sources before it's too late.

Nice Dustin,

Hey man, I always really enjoy your posts. There are straight forward and to the point. I completely agree with your thoughts about energy. It is a great thing.

Dust-in the Wind,

Way to be specific and to the point! Did you know that hydropower is the use of water flow to create energy? I bet you do because you put that in your post! Well the geothermal energy doesn't seem like a reliable source of energy to me. loved your comment btw...

you have done a very great job on this weeks post. i enjoyed reading about the different kinds of energy that we can use over and over again. i wonder what kinds of energy we will come up with in the future that we can recycle. i can't wait to read your next topic, next week.

Jolly good show chap! Jolly good. Great information and content. You gave a nice mix of history and definitions, which always keep it interesting. I also agree that we need to start using other fuels. Soon enough, we will either have a gunky world or have no more energy left to use. Let's get started now!

Fabuoulsy yours,
Megan

Dustin,
It was great how you just dived right into the topic you were going to discuss. You effectively summarized biomass energy. Your inclusion of examples and statistics about hydro power energy was really helpful to understanding the topic. I loved how you bluntly pointed out why different energies are so obviously renewable. I liked your advice for the reader at the end also. You wrote your post in a very effective manner and it was extremely educational.
